Discover the rich history as we celebrate the heritage of the West Virginia Coal Miner, his family, and the Coal Camp Life. You're invited to explore the many cultural and historical treasures that abound in the 1890 original Whipple company store. Discover little known facts about this historical Icon. Unravel the question, why the hidden safe? Where is the secret second floor? Operate the original wooded hand operated freight elevator. Send mail from the Whipple post office. Discover the curiosities surrounding the 3rd floor ballroom. Explore the dark corners of the basement, Walk in the footsteps of the coal miners gone before us. Listen to the folklore, stories and legends that are part of what makes West Virginia coal miners a legacy not to be forgotten. This very unique architectural structure sold everything from candy to caskets, and was the center of the coal camp life. Join us for a guided 45 minute tour through a piece of timeless history.
